The John Paul Stevens Foundation announced today that long-time public interest attorney and legal services leader, Anjuli Arora-Dow, will become the organization’s inaugural Program Director, focusing on leading the Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship. A highly regarded nonprofit leader, Arora-Dow brings to the role extensive experience as a public interest attorney and a personal dedication to public service.
“We are thrilled to announce the Board’s selection of Anjuli Arora-Dow as our first-ever Program Director,” said Teresa Roseborough, President of the Stevens Foundation Board of Directors. “The Justice John Paul Stevens Fellowship has experienced an accelerated expansion over the last two years, and Anjuli has the strategic vision, depth of experience in public interest law, and commitment to supporting the next generation of lawyers needed to guide the Fellowship’s next phase of development.”
Anjuli Arora-Dow brings close to two decades of experience to the Program Director role, including most recently as the Legal Director at Legal Services for Children where she served as a member of the Management Team, directed the organization’s legal team in providing interdisciplinary, trauma-informed direct legal services, and stewarded relationships with a variety of key stakeholders. Her career has also included roles at Bay Area Legal Aid, the Alliance for Children’s Rights, and the Daily Journal, among others.
“We were very impressed by Anjuli’s vision for the future of the Stevens Fellowship program during the interview and selection process,” said Susan Stevens Mullen, Foundation Board member and Justice Stevens’s youngest daughter. “She has a remarkable combination of experience in public interest lawyering in a variety of settings, training and mentoring hundreds of law students, and strategic program design and implementation. The Board looks forward to partnering with Anjuli as we enter the next chapter of the Stevens Fellowship program.”
“I am honored to be joining the Stevens Foundation in this role and am excited to work with the Board, staff, network of participating law schools, and most of all the Stevens Fellows in advancing Justice Stevens’s vision for a more just legal system and society,” said Anjuli Arora-Dow. “I care deeply about the Foundation’s mission of developing and supporting a diverse, robust pipeline of future public interest lawyers and leaders, and I welcome this opportunity to bring the knowledge and experience I gained in many years of public interest law to elevate the next set of inspiring and passionate lawyers looking to make a difference in their communities and nationally.”
Arora-Dow’s selection concludes a national search conducted by the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Arora-Dow will join the Foundation’s fractional Executive Director, Julia R. Wilson, and Senior Program Consultant, Jenny Chung Mejia, in implementing the Foundation’s strategic plan.

An independent nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, the Foundation provides a formal home for the Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship Program.
About the Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship
The Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowship was created in 1997 at Northwestern University School of Law, Justice Stevens’s alma mater, to support law students who spend the summer working in otherwise unpaid public interest law internships. The Fellowship Program reflects Justice Stevens’ deep belief that a dynamic and effective justice system depends on a cadre of trained and committed lawyers committed to public interest work. Over the past 25 years, the Stevens Fellowship has supported over 780 law students, of whom 74% have gone on to work in the public interest after graduating from law school. In summer 2023, the Stevens Fellowship will support a cohort of over 150 Fellows working in a wide range of public interest placements, serving a variety of communities.
